The Miss Texas Scholarship Foundation invites everyone to either walk or run in our “Run For Your Life 5K Run & Walk”. Our race purpose is to advocate for healthy heart awareness for women.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the leading cause of death for females in 2017 was heart disease at 21.8%. Death by heart disease was greater than cancer which came in at 20.7% and other leading causes such as stroke, Alzheimer’s & diabetes, etc. These results apply to women of all races, origins, and ages.
According to the American Heart Association, only 1 in 5 women believe that heart disease is their greatest health threat. Now more than ever, with obesity and diabetes on the rise in this country, it’s time to take notice. More importantly, knowing the signs of a heart attack and stroke can assist someone in getting assistance as quickly as possible if necessary. We hope that bringing awareness promotes a more healthy lifestyle.
All proceeds go to the Miss Texas Scholarship Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. As one of the largest providers of scholarship dollars to young women throughout our great state, we are constantly looking for opportunities to provide additional scholarships. This race allows us to support our scholarships and a great cause!
The Miss Texas Scholarship Competition is an official preliminary to the Miss America Scholarship Competition.
